The Villa
Villa History

Villa i Collazzi, designed by Michelangelo

Villa I Collazzi has a long and rich history, dating back to the 11th century. The property was originally a fortress owned by the Buondelmonte family, a powerful Florentine family. In the 16th century, the villa was purchased by the Bini brothers, wealthy bankers who commissioned Michelangelo to transform the fortress into a luxurious villa.

Michelangelo's design for the villa was simple but elegant, with a classical Renaissance facade and a spacious interior. The villa was built on two terraces, with a large courtyard enclosed on three sides and open on the fourth. The courtyard was surrounded by loggias on two levels, and the villa itself was decorated with classical Renaissance elements such as pilasters, arches, and cornices.

In 1933, the villa was purchased by the Marchi family, who still own it today. The Marchi family has restored the villa to its original beauty and have made a number of improvements to the property.

Church History

Chiesa di San Salvatore in Ognissanti (1251)

The Chiesa di San Salvatore in Ognissanti was founded in the mid-13th century by the Umiliati, a religious order that was dedicated to the processing and trade of wool. The church was originally built in a Gothic style, but it was extensively renovated in the 17th century in a Baroque style. The church was a popular pilgrimage destination in the Middle Ages, and it was the site of a number of important religious events.

The Chiesa di San Salvatore in Ognissanti is home to a number of important works of art, including:

1) A fresco of the Last Supper by Domenico Ghirlandaio, painted in 1480. The fresco is located in the refectory of the church and is one of Ghirlandaio's most famous works.

2) A tomb of Amerigo Vespucci, the explorer who gave his name to the Americas. Vespucci's tomb is located in the Vespucci Chapel and is decorated with a bronze plaque and a bas-relief.

3) A tomb of Sandro Botticelli, the Renaissance painter. Botticelli's tomb is located in the Vespucci Chapel and is decorated with a marble plaque.
