The city was founded in the 6th century BC, and it was once one of the most powerful and influential cities in Europe. Florence was the birthplace of the Renaissance, and it is home to many important historical sites, such as the Palazzo Vecchio and the Piazza della Signoria.

Florence's Most Famous Art Museums

Uffizi Gallery: The Uffizi Gallery houses some of the most iconic paintings in history, including Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Allegory of Spring, Michelangelo's Tondo Doni, Leonardo da Vinci's Adoration of the Magi, and Raphael's Madonna of the Goldfinch.

Academia Gallery: The Accademia Gallery houses a number of other works by Michelangelo. Michelangelo's David is one of the most famous sculptures in the world, and it is a must-see for any visitor to Florence. Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore: The Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, also known as the Duomo, is the cathedral of Florence, Italy. It is one of the largest churches in the world, and it is considered to be a masterpiece of Gothic architecture. The construction of the Duomo began in 1296 and was completed in 1436. The cathedral was designed by Arnolfo di Cambio, but the dome was designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. The dome is the most iconic feature of the cathedral, and it is one of the largest domes in the world. You can climb the stairs to the top of the Duomo in Florence. There are 463 steps to the top, and it takes about 30 minutes to climb but the city views are priceless. 

Santa Maria Novella store: The Santa Maria Novella store in Florence is a historic pharmacy and perfumery that has been in operation since 1221. It is one of the oldest pharmacies in the world, and it is considered to be one of the most prestigious. The store is located in a beautiful 14th-century building that was originally a Dominican monastery. The interior of the store is decorated with frescoes, sculptures, and stained glass windows. The store also has a museum that houses a collection of historical pharmaceutical and perfumery equipment.

Gucci Museum: The Gucci Museum in Florence, also known as the Gucci Garden, is a museum dedicated to the history and heritage of the Italian fashion house Gucci. The museum is located in the Palazzo della Mercanzia, a 14th-century building in the heart of Florence. The museum features a variety of exhibits, including clothing, handbags, shoes, and accessories from the Gucci archives.

Boboli Gardens: The Boboli Gardens in Florence are a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. This makes it a convenient place to stay for tourists who want to be close to all of the action.

Ponte Vecchio: The Ponte Vecchio is one of the oldest bridges in Florence, dating back to the 14th century. It was originally built to be a wooden bridge, but it was rebuilt in stone after it was destroyed by a flood in 1333. The Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge in Florence that survived World War II. The Ponte Vecchio is home to some of the most luxurious jewelry shops in the world. These shops sell high-end jewelry, watches, and other accessories.

San Lorenzo Market: The San Lorenzo market (often referred to as the Mercato Centrale or Mercato Centrale di San Lorenzo) is a fantastic spot to discover one-of-a-kind, locally crafted items. From leather belts to handbags and hats, the array of leather goods you’ll come across here is endless.

The Mall Firenze: The Mall luxury outlet mall is located in Leccio Reggello, about 30 minutes outside of Florence, Italy. It is one of the largest and most popular outlet malls in Europe. The mall features over 200 boutiques from some of the world's most famous luxury brands, including Gucci, Prada, Valentino, and Ferragamo. The Mall is set in a beautiful Tuscan landscape, with rolling hills and vineyards in the distance. The mall itself is well-designed and easy to navigate. The shops are arranged in a series of open-air streets and courtyards. There are also a number of restaurants and cafes on-site.

For Food Enthusiasts

La Giostra: Ristorante La Giostra in Florence is famous for its authentic Tuscan cuisine, romantic atmosphere, and stunning views of the city. The restaurant is located in a historic 16th-century building with brick arches and exposed stone walls. The dining room is decorated with traditional Tuscan furniture and artwork. The restaurant also has a beautiful outdoor terrace where guests can enjoy their meals on warm evenings.

Osteria Delle Tre Panche: Highly recommend sitting on the terrace as there are great views of the Arno however, definitely call in advance to make the reservation. The food is outstanding.

Santa Cocktail Club: Sofia and Logan's favorite bar in Florence, situated in the Santa Maria Novella piazza. Great for sunset cocktails, with great views of the cathedral and bar snacks. 

Bitter Bar: Around the corner from La Giostra is Bitter Bar which is a speakeasy-style cocktail bar that serves fully-customized drinks catered to your preferences. 

All'Antico Vinaio: All'Antico Vinaio is a sandwich shop in Florence, Italy, that is famous for its large, delicious, and affordable sandwiches. The shop was founded in 1989 by the Mazzanti family, and it has quickly become a popular spot for both locals and tourists alike. This is Sofia's favorite spot in Florence for a quick and casual snack.

Nearby Florence

Siena: 1 hour and 15 minute driving distance from Florence city center, you find Siena, one of the most popular and visited places in Tuscany, a place extremely rich in history and art and with strong local traditions tied to its 17 districts (called “contrade”) and to the famous Palio di Siena, the biggest annual event that takes place twice each summer in the city.
If you visit Siena for the first time, I definitely recommend you to go straight into the heart of the city, to the beautiful Piazza del Campo, one of the landmarks of the city. You can decide to start your day in Siena right here or instead head towards the Duomo, returning to Piazza del Campo later. The main attractions of the city are located between Piazza del Campo and the Cathedral, so you’ll likely spend most of your time here anyway!

San Gimignano: San Gimignano, a small walled village about 45 min from Florence city center, is famous for its fascinating medieval architecture and towers that rise above of all the other buildings offering an impressive view of the city from the surrounding valley.
At the height of its glory, San Gimignano's patrician families had built around 72 tower-houses as symbols of their wealth and power. Although only 14 have survived, San Gimignano still retains its feudal atmosphere and appearance.
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1990, San Gimignano offers visitors the chance to step back in time while enjoying its local products including saffron and its white wine, the Vernaccia di San Gimignano.
